General Purpose of Position The Aquarium Operations Executive will lead the front-of-house team at the Malta National Aquarium, ensuring exceptional customer experiences and overseeing daily operations to maintain the highest quality of service. This dynamic role will focus on delivering an engaging visitor experience, managing events, supporting and developing staff, and optimizing operational performance within budget. The Operations Executive will also play a key role in promoting and implementing new initiatives, events, and programs that enhance visitor engagement and help achieve the aquarium’s mission.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all front-of-house operations, including admissions, ticketing, guest services, and retail.
  • Ensure a welcoming, efficient, and engaging experience for all visitors, focusing on quality service and addressing any issues that arise promptly.
  • Dealing with formal and informal customer complaints.
  • Provide hands-on support to front-of-house staff, covering shifts or roles as needed to maintain smooth operations during peak times.
  • Team Leadership and Development
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a team of front-line staff, ensuring alignment with aquarium values and commitment to service excellence.
  • Conduct regular evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work culture that encourages teamwork, accountability, and high morale among staff.
  • Event Planning and Execution
  • Work closely with the other department to plan, promote, and execute events that attract and engage visitors, such as educational programs, special exhibits, holiday events, and private functions.
  • Coordinate event logistics, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure successful and memorable visitor experiences.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of events, gathering feedback and data to enhance future programs.
  • Budget and Resource Management
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the front-of-house budget, including payroll, operational expenses, and inventory.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.
  • Visitor Experience and Quality Control
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation in all visitor-facing areas, working with maintenance team to address any issues.
  • Regularly review and refine visitor service procedures, ensuring that the front-of-house team consistently delivers an outstanding experience.
  • Analyze customer feedback, surveys, and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address them.
  • Collaborate with the management team to introduce and implement new programs and initiatives that align with the aquarium’s goals and enhance visitor engagement.
  • Assist in promoting new programs, exhibits, and initiatives to maximize reach and attract diverse audiences.
Knowledge, Experience and Education required
  • Minimum of 3 years in operations management within a customer-focused industry.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure.

The selected candidates will be responsible for;
  • Greeting all customers visiting the Aquarium
  • Inform and educate customers about the aquarium exhibits
  • Guiding and giving presentations to groups during their visit

We are looking for presentable and approachable individuals, who are customer-oriented, enjoy working in a team and are comfortable to speak to the general public. The selected candidate must have excellent face-to-face communication skills, work under pressure and continuous willingness to learn. Candidates having knowledge of the biology of fish and customer-oriented roles will be given preference. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours which will include weekends and public holidays, and able to clearly communicate in English. We are looking for both part-time and full-time positions.
As an IT Support Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our organization’s information technology systems. You will provide technical assistance to our employees, diagnose, and resolve IT-related issues, and play a critical role in maintaining our IT infrastructure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level technical support to employees by responding to IT-related inquiries, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and resolving technical problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, peripherals, and software applications. Perform routine system updates and ensure all devices are up to date and secure.
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the company’s network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points. Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide support to employees working from various locations.
  • Collaborate with the IT team on various IT projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and implementing new technologies to enhance the organisation’s IT capabilities.
  • Monitoring and maintaining network servers.
  • Patching and Monitoring network.
  • Creating new user accounts and performing access control.
  • Implement and enforce IT security policies, including user access controls, password management, and data backup procedures.
  • Stay up to date with cybersecurity best practices and assist in maintaining a secure IT environment.
  • Create and update documentation, manuals, and knowledge base articles for end-users.
  • Upgrading, installing, and configuring new hardware and software to meet companies’ objectives.
  • Provide 24/7 on call support amongst all properties.

Knowledge, Experience and Education required

  • A minimum of 1 year proven experience in a similar IT support role
  • Must have relevant IT Certifications up to CompTIA A+
  • Ideally in possession of CCNA or MCSA certification
  • A strong can-do attitude with a high level of motivation.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Have excellent troubleshooting skills and possess the ability to analyze problems rationally and provide solutions.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Basic Networking knowledge is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills across all organisational levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Posses a clean and valid driving licence.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Aquarist to join our dynamic team. The Aquarist will be responsible for the maintenance of all display tanks in the aquarium and quarantine, plant rooms, record keeping as well as preparing and delivering diets for all our species, from shrimps to sharks. You will also be responsible for maintaining the life support systems that look after our species. Help promote & comply with all relevant Health & Safety Procedures & Protocols, suggest and actively participate in team discussions to improve our current exhibits and ensure the highest standards for yourself, visitors and guests. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member with excellent problem-solving skills, and who can work with minimal supervision. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year working experience in a similar role, ideally in a Public Aquarium. They need to be willing to work flexible hours which may include weekends and public holidays, and be able to clearly communicate in English. Experience with reptiles and holding a SCUBA diving experience is not a must, but will be considered as an asset.   Closing date: 10th September 2024
